‘Sydney Tank Night 1’ is an art gala experience by the Art Gallery of New South Wales. A singular night of music, art, energy, hospitality and unmissable activations across all levels of the Gallery’s impressive new North Building. Featuring an immersive multisensory performance in the North Building hidden ‘Tank’—a previously decommissioned oil tank from WWII, now converted into a spectacular art space. Inspired by the Gallery’s North Building, and with a focus on the ‘Tank’ space, Studio Thomas Hatton’s identity for Sydney Tank Night 1 explores the notion of dimensionality in the art spaces being used. This is further conveyed through digitally composed representations of materials such as chrome and aluminium, seen throughout the North Building. The ‘Tank’ art space and materials in the building are referenced to create an ambiguous yet elevated feeling. This is paired with bold typographic language and colour to ensure the event identity feels contemporary. Unfortunately, due to unforeseen circumstances, the event was postponed.
